A commentary to a wonderful video
Note: The following text is copied from the comment I made in the following video
This is truly a great encapsulation of the state of modern tools. I, as an engineer student and designer, had to learn CAD with autoCAD plus some other rendering tools. Later migrated to Fusion360 and used it for about 2,5years. It is a great tool and it does provide a Hobbyist license. However, the 360 implies it's cloud-based. And I wasn't able to work without an internet connection (plus the all time slow maintenance and not being able to create blueprints and only having space for 10 active files, due to commercial restrictions within the license) and would loose time with other limitations making all of it a pain in the neck.
A year and a half ago I did the big change of using open-source software. I started using FreeCAD and Linux and never looked back to autod*sk nor microsoft. And it was the best decision ever. The good things we had with old softwares, being able to use them whenever we wanted; having no subscription bs and, most importantly, being able to work locally without having to send my data to something somewhere in the middle of a datacenter was like getting a breath of fresh air from a more tender era.
I truly thank you for this wonderful video and letting others know that, because any license could change in any moment, we don't own anything. But, with the universality of tools and methods in the world of design and engineering, you can try other softwares (of course with a bit of a learning curve) and adapt to the new environments. That you can still use these knowledge and create amazing stuff and never giving up because some number-thinker forgot that the numbers still represent people.
