First Entry
Preamble
In this project, I will test the compostability of a piece of PLA; try to make a model for it by taking all the information that's possible to take about the environment that the sample has endured during this experiment.
Introduction
Today I will start by printing the firsts samples. There will be 2 for control and 2 experimental ones.
Blueprints and specifications
Dimensions
The build will consists on a simple \(50\times 50\times 2[\mathrm{mm}]\) square extrusions. Where:
- One is a whole piece
- One has a parameterised grille pattern (hexagonal).

Specifications of Plastic and Printing
The plastic being used is white PLA+ esun. It has an average density of \(0,097\left[\mathrm{g}\over \mathrm{cm}^3\right]\). With an infill of 100%.
Shape | Volume \(\mathrm{mm}^3\) | Surphase \(\mathrm{mm}^2\) |
---|---|---|
Whole | 5 000 | 5 400 |
Grille | 2 903,47 | 4 652,93 |
Execution
Modus Operandi
After I finish printing two of each, I will bury one of each in the garden. Then every couple of weeks, I'll retrieve the pieces, weight them and then take a picture of them to compare them with control and with the prior images.

Down to Earth
On
the pieces have been burried on a climate of 13°C going to 25°C (summer weather).
TODO Data Points
For when I get the instruments, collect the following data:
- pH of soil
- Humidity of soil
- Temperature
